I first heard about We Need To Talk About Kevin a couple of months ago and wasn’t interested in it after reading the synopsis. Gus Van Sant’s Elephant came to mind immediately and I did not care for that film, nor do I really care to watch a film about a sociopath who shoots up his school. What really caught my attention was the teaser trailer and Ezra Miller’s performance as Kevin. You can tell that a lot of thought and development went into play when it came to Ezra’s character. I like that the director, or the author really since it is based off of a book, didn’t rely on predictable cliches like being picked on in school, coming from a lower class broken family or having repressed homosexual tendencies to justify the characters actions. Kevin is a straight up nonchalant, disturbed sociopath and it is very evident from his early childhood as the trailer shows. The film also stars Tilda Swinton and John C. Reilly.
We Need To Talk About Kevin hits theaters October 21st (UK) or December 2nd (US)
