On My Own

“I am very slow to warm. I’ve always been sort of a loner. I didn’t play team sports. I am better one-on-one than in big groups. I can understand wanting to be invisible and mistrusting people and wanting to understand everything before you engage with the world”

Who Am I?

“One thing that I’ve struggled with, been interested in just as a person, a girl-slash-woman, whatever I am at 31 in this world, is being comfortable with myself.”

-Michelle Williams

It’s Not My Concern

“Time has made me stronger in my belief that you have to do things to please yourself in a way that does not compromise. I do what I want and I’m satisfied with it, whether or not it pleases everybody. That’s what makes me feel whole. Actually there are certain people I definitely don’t want to please. There are some people I’m like ‘Oh no, puh-leeeze don’t like me!”

Bright On The Outside

“I never really felt embraced by the community. I remember meeting an actress on the up who I really admire, who said to me, ‘I might not be the queen of Hollywood, but I’m definitely in the court.’ I would never even begin to think that way … For a while, I was doing more commercial press, making more mainstream choices, going to certain parties, stuff like that. I tried to look a little bit more “accessible”. It turned out my version of accessible wasn’t really all that accessible.”

-Chloe Sevigny
