Young Wonder – Tumbling Backwards

Words cannot describe the incredible sound of Young Wonder. Hauling from Ireland, the duo have bursted onto the music scene by creating a cinematic sound filled with a wide variety of musical influences such as electronic, trip hop, and ambeint. Singer Rachel Koeman has the voice of an angel, creating an ethereal experience for listeners that’ll take you to lush landscapes and music creator Ian Ring provides the hypnotizing beats that evoke a flood of euphoria. Their sound is a combination of eastern influences and haunting rhythms surging with beautiful pop melodies capable of sending listeners on a spiritual adventure. Young Wonder has a truly magical sound and their music videos are equally as pleasing, take a listen for yourself and find out what all the fuss is about.

New Music: Rihanna – Diamonds

Rihanna – Diamonds

The hardest working woman in pop music is back yet again with a new single and is singing a different tune. Diamonds, the lead single off of Rihanna’s seventh studio album, is a bit of a departure from what we have come to expect from the Barbados singer and that’s a good thing. With the recent explosion of dance music and the popularity of producers like Benny Blanco, Dr. Luke and dare I say Calvin Harris, it’s getting difficult to distinguish who is who in the world of pop music. Has pop music really become that boring that it has lost its personality? Thankfully not, and I give Rihanna credit for experimenting with a more mature sound and breaking the trend of recycled dance beats and suspiciously coincidental sing along hooks. Although described as “happy and hippy” Diamonds would be best described as an anthemic soulful track similar in vein to Umbrella. Rihanna’s vocals sound surprisingly well rested and Diamonds is just the beginning of what looks to to be a new era of growth, maturity and celebration. If you’re not a fan, ya better get on board soon. Be prepared to hear this song everywhere!

New Music: Crystal Castles – Plague

Crystal Castles – Plague

Toronto’s electronic goth duo Crystal Castles have finally released their new single Plague from their upcoming album (please say it’s titled Crystal Castles III?) due later this summer. Plague has Alice Glass and Ethan Kath approaching their music with a much darker, ominous sound that was alluded to on 2010’s album Crystal Castles II. While Crystal Castles II may have hinted at a growing sinister sound, new single Plague is a fully evolved nightmare that contains creepy church organs, mirrored echos and eerie lyrics. Alice Glass continues her reign as an evil intergalactic space princess (think Moon Child [The Never Ending Story] meets Lilandra Neramani [X-Men]) as she taunts her victim with “I need you pure, I need you clean. I am the plague”. Crystal Castles may haven taken a few notes from fellow witchgaze band Salem as far as their sound goes but the thinly veiled influence seems more like an afterthought than a direct imitation. Stir in some Prometheus-esque sirens and Crystal Castles have created what is truly a beautifully disturbing masterpiece. Genius!

Lana Del Rey – National Anthem

Dayum! Interscope Records is not messing around with their current golden girl Lana Del Rey and by the sound of Lana’s new single, National Anthem, both Lana Del Rey and Interscope have a HUGE hit on their shoulders. National Anthem is bursting with a catchy sing-along chorus that would make any pop-star die with envy and the fun breezy beat is a sure-fire hit for Summer of 2012. Like a dormant volcano waiting to erupt with life and wreck havoc on the general public, National Anthem is dying to be heard and will definitely be the song that propel’s Lana’s career into the stratosphere and makes her a star. This song is exactly the right recipe to be a GINORMOUS cross-cover hit for Lana Del Rey and kudos to her because she deserves all the success! With her first major label studio album on the horizon (January 31st) and a modeling contract just announced; it looks as if 2012 will be the Year of Lana.
